Voters in competitive districts, particularly in Texas, will face a surge of political messaging as Elon Musk’s political committee continues its heavy spending. According to filings with the Federal Election Commission, America PAC received more than $76 million in the first two weeks of October. This influx of cash is intended to support Republican candidates in the final stretch of the midterm elections.

The committee deployed nearly $43 million during that same two-week period. As the campaign enters its final phase, America PAC is holding approximately $47 million in cash. This financial position allows the group to sustain high levels of advertising and outreach in key races nationwide.

The Texas Senate contest has been the primary focus of this new spending. The PAC allocated $15.2 million to the state, which is double the amount spent there during the summer months. Of that total, $12.4 million was used to attack Democratic candidate James Talarico, while $2.8 million went to promoting Republican candidate Ken Paxton. Additional daily filings indicate another $9.1 million has been spent against Talarico since the initial report.

This brings the total spending against Talarico to nearly $28 million for the cycle. That figure represents about 40 percent of all funds America PAC has spent supporting or opposing candidates. The PAC also shifted its strategy toward digital platforms, spending $11.4 million on online ads in the last two weeks. This amount is comparable to what the group spent on mail and texting combined.

Musk has now contributed more than $445 million to Republican political groups in this election cycle, according to an analysis of FEC filings. This makes him the largest known individual donor in the midterms. More than $165 million of that total has gone directly to America PAC since July.

Musk has also been active on social media regarding the Texas race. He posted on X that he believes something is deeply wrong with Talarico, calling him a creep and claiming without evidence that the Democrat would vote to take away children and transition them. Earlier in the month, Musk amplified a false claim that Talarico had been treated at a mental health facility. Talarico responded by stating that there is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal US Senator.

Current polling suggests the race is still undecided. An Emerson College poll of 1,000 likely Texas voters conducted between October 17 and 19 found Talarico leading by two percentage points at 48 percent, with Paxton at 46 percent. This difference is within the poll’s margin of error of three points.

The stakes for Musk extend beyond the Texas Senate seat. If Democrats win control of the House, lawmakers have signaled they will investigate his role in the Department of Government Efficiency, his companies’ federal contracts, and various conflicts of interest. California Democrat Zoe Lofgren described the number of these conflicts as astounding. If Democrats also secure the Senate, creating unified control of Congress, the scrutiny could increase further.

Silicon Valley Democrats have also targeted SpaceX. Representatives Sam Liccardo, Jimmy Panetta, and Ro Khanna sent a letter to the White House on Friday demanding an investigation into the company’s Starshield satellite service in Ukraine. They vowed that the next Congress will closely scrutinize federal funding awarded to Musk’s businesses.
