WUNC airs U.S. geography challenge for puzzle fans
Listeners must identify 13 locations using initial-letter clues, with a submission deadline set for Nov. 5.

WUNC has released a new on-air puzzle that challenges listeners to name 13 specific places in the United States. Each correct answer is a two-word name for a city, state, river, mountain, or other geographic feature. The format requires that the initial letters in the provided clues match the initial letters of the correct answers.
The station published the challenge on Nov. 1. The list includes prompts such as Northeast Haven and Pioneers' Pinnacle. Other clues reference specific features, including a Storied Fire and a Molten Lava site. The set also covers locations like a Dry region and a Hydroelectric Development.
The puzzle follows a standard structure for the program. Last week, the challenge involved identifying two well-known companies with specific logo lettering. The winning submission came from Deborah Freedman of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The correct answers for that round were eBay and jetBlue.
The current round features one entry that requires a three-word answer. That clue is Minnesota's Sizable Population. The remaining 12 items require two-word responses. Listeners must decode clues for a Port, an Engineered Channel, and a Health Spa.
Participants have until Thursday, Nov. 5, at 3 p.m. ET to submit their responses. The station asks entrants to include a phone number for potential contact. Selected answers provide a chance to play the puzzle live on air.
