The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 on Monday night in Philadelphia. The victory ended a two-game losing streak and stopped Dallas from falling further behind in the NFC East race. The Cowboys improved to 3-4, tying the New York Giants for first place in the division.
Quarterback Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes in the win. He completed two for CeeDee Lamb and one for George Pickens. This was Prescott's sixth career game with at least three passing touchdowns against the Eagles. The offensive output was a stark contrast to the previous two weeks, where the team scored a combined 29 points and Prescott threw four interceptions.
Running back Javonte Williams provided the ground game support he needed. He carried the ball 25 times for a career-high 155 yards. Williams scored the final touchdown of the game from two yards out with 2:21 remaining. The Cowboys became the first team since 1983 to gain over 200 rushing yards and over 200 passing yards against the Eagles in a single game.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer remained quiet after the win. He noted that his players simply executed well. "Had nothing to do with desperation," Schottenheimer said. "Our guys just played good." He acknowledged the external criticism he faced during the week, including remarks on 105.3 The Fan where he called himself an elite playcaller despite a 9-13-1 record over the last three seasons.
Prescott said he did not discuss the coach's comments directly but noticed a change in mood. "It's not like he's naive," Prescott said. "It's not like he hadn't heard some noise about him.. But we've got his back." The quarterback emphasized that the team must continue to win division games to avoid checking on competitors.
The defense allowed the Eagles to score on their first drive of the first half and the first drive of the second half. However, the Cowboys pressured quarterback Tanner McKee effectively. Linebacker Quinnen Williams and defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku combined for two sacks, while defensive back DeMarvion Overshown recorded an interception. Running back Javonte Williams called the performance imperfect but a necessary result.
Dallas last won on Oct. 4 against the Houston Texans. The next game is at home against the 2-5 Arizona Cardinals. The Cowboys have not won consecutive games since a three-game winning streak in Weeks 11-13 last year. According to ESPN Analytics, the Cowboys now have a 57% chance of winning the NFC East division.
