MLB Network named Atlanta Braves manager Walt Weiss a finalist for the National League Manager of the Year Award on Monday. The honor recognizes the team's sharp performance improvement under his leadership this season.
Weiss competes against Philadelphia Phillies manager Don Mattingly and Milwaukee Brewers skipper Pat Murphy. Murphy is currently pursuing a third consecutive Manager of the Year title, a rare feat in modern baseball history.
The Braves promoted Weiss from bench coach to manager after Brian Snitker retired. That decision came following a 76-win season in which Atlanta missed the postseason for the first time since 2017. Under Weiss, the club won 94 games and secured its first National League East title since 2023.
Atlanta entered the postseason with the No. 3 seed. The team defeated the Phillies in two of three games at Truist Park during the Wild Card Series. They subsequently lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a five-game Division Series.
The BBWAA will announce the Manager of the Year winner on Nov. 10. Chris Sale, a finalist for the NL Cy Young Award, will learn of his status on Nov. 11. Sale is seeking his second Cy Young trophy in his career.
Other National League finalists include Pete Crow-Armstrong, Shohei Ohtani, and Brice Turang for MVP. Jacob Misiorowski and Cristopher Sánchez also compete with Sale for the pitching honor. Carson Benge, Sal Stewart, and JJ Wetherholt round out the Rookie of the Year list.
