Atlanta Braves manager Walt Weiss was announced Monday as a finalist for the National League Manager of the Year award. The MLB Network identified Weiss alongside Philadelphia Phillies manager Don Mattingly and Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy.
Weiss replaced Brian Snitker, who retired after a 76-win campaign in which the Braves missed the postseason for the first time since 2017. In Weiss's first season in the role, Atlanta won 94 games and secured its first National League East title since 2023.
The team entered the postseason with the No. 3 seed. They defeated the Phillies in three games at Truist Park during the Wild Card Series. Atlanta then lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a five-game National League Division Series.
Murphy is seeking a third consecutive award. The Baseball Writers' Association of America will announce the winner on November 10. Braves pitcher Chris Sale, a finalist for the National League Cy Young Award, will learn if he wins his second such honor on November 11.
Other National League finalists include Cubs shortstop Pete Crow-Armstrong, Dodgers outfielder Shohei Ohtani, and Brewers second baseman Brice Turang for Most Valuable Player. Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski, Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez, and Sale compete for the pitching award. Mets catcher Carson Benge, Reds outfielder Sal Stewart, and Cardinals outfielder JJ Wetherholt are finalists for Rookie of the Year.
