The Charlotte region enters its final autumn weekend with dry skies and above-average heat.

Weather service data shows temperatures reaching 72 degrees on Halloween, a departure from the typical October chill. This warm front creates ideal conditions for outdoor trick-or-treating across the Carolinas on the evening of October 31.

The mild stretch follows a weekend where Saturday brings slightly cooler air, yet remains warmer than normal for the season. Residents have had a few days to prepare for the holiday under these consistent conditions.

The pattern shifts sharply on November 1. Rain moves into the area on Sunday, accompanied by a drop in temperature and increased cloud cover. Meteorologists cite a wedge of cooler air settling against the mountainous terrain as the driver for this sudden change in weather.

The National Weather Service has issued First Alerts for both Sunday and Monday. These advisories signal that rain showers will likely persist into the start of the following week. The cooler air mass will keep daytime temperatures below the highs recorded during Halloween week.

Forecasters indicate they are monitoring the duration of the rain event. While the exact length of the wet spell is still under observation, the immediate outlook favors a sustained period of precipitation and lower temperatures.

The weather system clears the way for a start to the new month defined by wet conditions rather than the dry, mild spell that characterized the holiday.
