The previous annual general meeting for the University of Otago Student Association was cancelled due to low attendance, a fact the executive team acknowledged openly in a recent communication. This time, the organization is calling on the student body to show up this Wednesday at 1 pm to review how the union manages its budget.

The meeting will take place in the Main Common Room, located next to Union Hall. If the weather is favorable, the event will move outside to Union Lawn. OUSA has confirmed that free food and other incentives will be provided to encourage participation from students and their peers.

The AGM serves as a primary mechanism for students to exercise oversight over their student levy. It is one of the few instances where the student body can directly question the association about its operations and financial decisions. Participants will have the opportunity to influence where levy money is directed in the coming year.

For those wishing to submit specific budget queries before the meeting, the association has provided direct contact points. Troy, who handles finance, can be reached at finance@ousa.org.nz. General inquiries regarding the event structure should be directed to Kamesha, the administrative vice-president, at adminvp@ousa.org.nz, or to Daniel, the current president, at president@ousa.org.nz. The executive also maintains an active presence on Instagram under the handle @ousaexec.

The call to action emphasizes that the money spent by OUSA is effectively student money. The executive team stated that students have the right to know how these funds are distributed and to voice disagreements with past decisions. The meeting is framed as a practical session for understanding the association's workflow and financial priorities rather than a ceremonial gathering.
