With holiday baking season approaching, a popular spice brand is being pulled from shelves in 14 states. The recall addresses potential lead contamination in Wise Wife Brand Ground Cinnamon.
SLR Food Distribution Inc announced the voluntary action in a recall alert. The company identified elevated lead levels as the cause. The product was available in retail and grocery stores across Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Shoppers should look for clear plastic containers weighing 110 grams, or 3.88 ounces, with black screw-top caps. The packaging features a best-before date of April 25, 2027. The UPC code 0688474302754 is printed on the back label. Units were sold between Sept. 8, 2025, and June 28, 2026.
The recall notice states that lead exposure can affect nearly every bodily system. Effects vary based on dosage, duration, age, and weight. Low-level, short-term exposure often produces no immediate symptoms. No illnesses have been reported to date as a result of the contaminated cinnamon.
Consumers are advised to stop using the product. They should discard the cinnamon or return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
The recall is effective immediately in all affected states.
