Matt Olson and Mauricio Dubón accepted Gold Glove Awards for the 2026 season on Sunday night. The two Atlanta Braves players were named the best defenders at their positions in the National League. This marks the first time the team has won two such awards in a single year since 2022.
Olson, 32, won his fourth Gold Glove as a first baseman. He joined Christian Walker and Paul Goldschmidt as the only active first basemen with four such awards. He beat out Ty France of San Diego and T.J. Rumfield of Colorado for the honor. Olson played in all 162 games this season, leading all first basemen in innings played. He also paced the league in Outs Above Average and overall fielding run value, with both metrics at 12. He ranked second in Defensive Runs Saved with 11.
Dubón, also 32, won his third Gold Glove, this time for the utility position. He is the first Atlanta player to win this specific award since Rawlings created the category in 2022. He has won the utility award three times in five years, including two times while with the Houston Astros in the American League. This makes him the only multi-time winner at the position in Major League history. His versatility was evident this season, as he started 75 games in left field, 51 at shortstop, 14 in center field, five at third base, and four at second base.
The voting process combines field personnel opinions with advanced analytics. Managers and up to six coaches from each team cast ballots for 75% of the vote, though they cannot vote for their own players. The remaining 25% is determined by the SABR Defensive Index, a formula that evaluates range, arm strength, and fielding reliability. A separate calculation of this index determines the utility winner.
The Braves have won 12 Gold Gloves across seven of the last nine seasons since 2018. Chris Sale and Michael Harris II were also finalists this year but lost to Nolan McLean of the Mets and Pete Crow-Armstrong of the Cubs, respectively. The awards recognize defensive excellence in professional baseball.
The complete list of 2026 winners includes Gabriel Moreno of the Diamondbacks at catcher, Brice Turang of the Brewers at second base, and Alex Bregman of the Cubs at third base. In the American League, Christian Walker of the Astros won at first base, while Taylor Walls of the Rays won at shortstop. The awards serve as an annual recognition of defensive skill across both leagues.
