Mill Spring residents have waited years for relief from a troubled property on Henry Ruff Road. The wait ended on Oct. 27 when a judge signed a consent judgment in a Chapter 19 Nuisance Abatement action.
The ruling orders everyone except the property owner to vacate the home at 113 Henry Ruff Road. All nuisance activity must cease immediately under the decision.
Polk County Sheriff Tim Wright stated the property posed a longstanding threat to community safety and quality of life. He noted the situation left residents fearful and placed a heavy burden on local law enforcement and emergency services.
The civil lawsuit was brought by Polk County on behalf of the state of North Carolina. The process involved a collaborative effort between the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Mill Spring Township, and the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Nuisance Abatement Team.
The owner retains the right to remain in the home but must clean up the property. The owner has 365 days to bring the site into full compliance with the judgment.
Wright said he appreciated the owner's cooperation in resolving the issue. He also commended community members for partnering with law enforcement to help restore peace to the area.
