Four people are dead in the Deep Ellum district.
The deaths followed three distinct shootings that took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux confirmed the toll at a briefing on Sunday.
He stated that investigators are treating the events as separate for now.
There is no current evidence linking the three incidents.
The violence happened over a window of about 30 minutes to an hour.
Police have not yet released the specific street addresses of the three crime scenes.
They said the locations are still being processed by evidence technicians.
Comeaux noted that the injury count is still changing.
About 15 people were hurt in the initial reports.
Some victims went to hospitals on their own, which complicates the final tally.
The chief said officers were prepared for the large Halloween crowds on Saturday night. He claimed the department was fully staffed for the event. In one instance, patrol cars were less than two blocks away when the gunfire started. Officers ran toward the sound and arrived quickly. Comeaux said they performed life-saving measures on the scene. They successfully revived at least one victim who was injured. Police have already made arrests in the investigation. Detectives are interviewing several people to determine their ties to the shootings. Witnesses are also being questioned. Investigators plan to go door-to-door at local businesses. They want to collect surveillance footage and review area cameras. Police are asking the public to share any photos or videos from the area. Comeaux called the violence unacceptable for the city. He said the department would do everything necessary to find those responsible. Crime scenes are expected to remain active through Sunday. Technicians are gathering shell casings and processing the areas.
