East Davidson High School in Thomasville, North Carolina, ended its varsity soccer season on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The administration made the call after a video of the team on a bus spread across social media platforms.

The clip shows a student asking teammates to make noise if they hate a specific racial group. Several people on the bus respond with sounds. The school confirmed the cancellation following a thorough investigation. Officials described the behavior as unacceptable and said it did not reflect the standards upheld at the school.

The decision ends a campaign where the team compiled a 17-4 record. The final regular-season game took place on Monday, Oct. 26, against an opponent who forfeited. That match occurred after the video first appeared online.

The school’s principal issued a statement strongly condemning the actions. Leaders said the move reflects the seriousness of the situation and the commitment to accountability expected of all students. The school acknowledged the impact on student-athletes and thanked the community for its understanding.

East Davidson is located about 30 minutes south of Winston-Salem and Greensboro. The 3A state varsity soccer playoffs are set to begin on Nov. 2.

The team will not participate in the postseason tournament.
