Fourteen million. That is the new figure Apple is reportedly targeting for the first year of sales for its iPhone Duo, a substantial jump from the previous expectation of 9.7 million units. This upward revision reflects a significant expansion of the company’s production plans, driven by what internal sources describe as an overwhelming response to the launch of its first folding smartphone.

The decision to boost orders by more than 40% appears to be a direct response to supply chain pressures that emerged immediately after the device went on sale. According to recent reports from DigiTimes, Apple has ramped up manufacturing output in anticipation of sustained high demand. The company’s initial estimates were clearly conservative, as the actual pre-order volume necessitated a rapid recalibration of its shipment targets for the coming twelve months.

The confusion surrounding the initial launch was palpable. When pre-orders opened on Friday, customers reported that their estimated delivery dates began slipping within minutes. Some buyers found themselves looking at shipping windows extending into late January. While it was initially unclear whether these delays were the result of insufficient inventory or merely a logistical bottleneck, the latest supply chain data points decisively toward high consumer interest as the primary driver.

Apple attributed the extended wait times to “extraordinary” demand, a phrase the company frequently employs during major product launches. To manage the influx of orders and mitigate the impact of scalping, the firm implemented a limit of two units per customer. As anticipated, many early adopters have since received updated, earlier shipping estimates, a change that aligns with the reported increase in production capacity.

Despite the manufacturing adjustments, early users of the iPhone Duo are facing some software challenges. Third-party applications have not yet been fully optimized for the device’s unique form factor. However, Apple maintains that the situation is improving rapidly as developers adapt their software to the new platform. Initial reviews based on a week of usage have consistently highlighted app support as a key area of focus for the user experience.

Beyond software, hardware features have also drawn attention. One notable point in early assessments was the device’s reliance on Touch ID rather than the more advanced facial recognition system. However, new reports suggest that Apple is already testing prototypes for the iPhone Duo 2 that incorporate Face ID, indicating that the company is actively working to integrate its more sophisticated biometric technology into the folding line in the near future.
