The Crusaders have named a 38-player roster for the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season. The squad places Richie Mo'unga back in the first-five group. Coach Scott Hansen announced the list on Tuesday. Hansen said the group blends established skill with fresh energy. He described the forward pack as a mix of experience and promising youth.
The prop line includes Tamaiti Williams, Fletcher Newell, George Bower, Finlay Brewis, Seb Calder, and new signing Feleti Sae-Ta'aufo'u. French prop Clement Castets will serve as a replacement player. He will remain with the club until Williams becomes selectable. At hooker, Codie Taylor leads a group that includes George Bell and Manumaua Letiu. Scott Barrett heads the lock unit, which features Jamie Hannah, Tahlor Cahill, and Liam Jack.
Hansen noted depth in the loose forward positions. Ethan Blackadder, Dominic Gardiner, Christian Lio-Willie, and Xavier Saifoloi anchor that section. New signing Finn McLeod joins them. Xavier Treacy, Oli Mathis, and Johnny Lee all earn full contracts for 2027. The halfback options are Noah Hotham and Kyle Preston. Mitchell Drummond returns to the main squad after spending 2026 in the Wider Training Group.
The backline brings back familiar faces. Mo'unga joins Rivez Reihana and James White at the number 10 position. In the midfield, new signings Jake Te Hiwi and Corey Evans pair with Leicester Fainga'anuku and Toby Bell. Cooper Roberts received a call-up from the 2026 Wider Training Group. The outside back line includes All Blacks Will Jordan and Chay Fihaki. They are joined by Johnny McNicholl, Macca Springer, Maloni Kunawave, and Kurtis MacDonald.
Hansen takes over as head coach for the 2027 campaign. He served as an assistant coach at the club from 2020 to 2023. His connection to the Crusaders dates back to the 1996 Super 12 season. He was the 25th player to wear the red and black jersey. Hansen expressed excitement about the group's potential. He highlighted the mix of successful veterans and hungry young players.
"We are all really excited about our squad and what we can all achieve together," Hansen said. "There's a lot of talent throughout the group, but just as importantly there are good people who care deeply about this club and what it represents." He added that the team's challenge is to bring that talent together. He wants the players to feel part of the building process.
The club has not yet named a new captain. The 38-man roster is the starting point for the 2027 season. Hansen will lead the team as they prepare for competition. The squad includes several players receiving their first full Crusaders contract. This group will form the core of the team's strategy for the upcoming year.
