The holiday music calendar just gained a major new entrant. Olivia Rodrigo announced the release of her first Christmas song, titled 'take me home (4 christmas),' which drops this Thursday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
The announcement was made via Instagram, where Rodrigo wrote, 'my first Christmas song 'take me home (4 christmas)' is out this Thursday at 5 pm pt/ 8 pm ET!! you can preorder it now. im so excited!!' The post included a Santa Claus emoji and a red heart.
The single release coincides with the debut of a new music video. The visual features Rodrigo alongside actress Cynthia Nixon and Saturday Night Live performer Ben Marshall. Rodrigo co-wrote the track with frequent collaborators Dan Nigro and Amy Allen. Nigro also served as the producer for the song.
Physical copies of the single are available for preorder now. An exclusive 7-inch vinyl and a cassette can be purchased through Rodrigo's official website. The vinyl edition will also be available at Target stores starting Friday.
This release follows the recent launch of a remix for 'expectations' featuring Chappell Roan. That remix became the highest peaking all-female collaboration on the Billboard Hot 100 this year. Its release also pushed Rodrigo's third album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, back to number one on the Billboard 200.
Rodrigo is currently performing on her The Unraveled Tour. A press release states the sold-out tour has sold more than 1 million tickets worldwide. The run has also broken several venue records.
