Hispanic voters in Mecklenburg County have already outpaced their participation in the 2022 midterm elections, according to state data released through Oct. 31. A total of 16,137 Hispanic voters cast ballots during the early voting period. In the 2022 cycle, only 11,141 Hispanic voters participated across the entire election.
The demographic shift is visible in the broader county numbers. Hispanic voters represented approximately 5.4% of the 299,003 ballots cast during this early window. Women formed the largest segment of that group, accounting for about 60% of Hispanic ballots. Young voters also drove a large share of the turnout, with 9,000 residents between ages 18 and 40 casting votes. This age bracket comprised about 56% of the total Hispanic vote, split between 4,323 voters ages 18 to 25 and 4,722 voters ages 26 to 40.
Party affiliation data shows registered Democrats leading the Hispanic voting block. They cast 8,407 ballots, followed by 6,404 unaffiliated voters and 1,249 registered Republicans. Political analysts note that Democrats are looking for a surge in support on Election Day Tuesday. Their strategy includes winning back Hispanic voters who leaned toward Republicans in the 2024 presidential election.
The county's early voting window has closed, with all remaining votes to be counted on Election Day. The 2022 comparison serves as a baseline for current engagement, highlighting a steep increase in pre-election participation for this community.
