Four people were transported to the hospital following a shooting that broke out at an Iredell County barn party in the early hours of Sunday, Nov. 1. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. at an event venue situated along Coddle Creek Highway in Mooresville.
Deputies stated that at least 30 shots were fired during the disturbance. Three of the injured individuals have since been released from medical care, while the fourth patient remains in stable condition. Law enforcement officials confirmed there is no continuing threat to the public, though no arrests have yet been made and the victims have not been publicly identified.
Investigators estimate that between 200 and 300 people were present at the venue. Driver’s licenses collected at the scene indicate that a large portion of attendees traveled from outside Iredell County. A day after the event, the property was littered with empty alcohol bottles, food containers, discarded clothing, and dozens of chairs.
Capt. Julie Wyatt of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office attributed the large turnout to online promotion. She said multiple digital promoters advertised the gathering, which she believed drew a crowd much larger than the organizers anticipated. “We spoke with the owners, and we are confident they had no clue how big this was going to be,” Wyatt said. “I think it hit social media and just spread like wildfire.”
Wyatt noted that investigators have recorded approximately 50 witness statements. However, many attendees reported hearing the gunfire without seeing the source, leaving officers without a clear understanding of the events that preceded the shooting. “Most of the people said that they only heard the shooting; they didn't see it,” Wyatt explained.
Residents in the immediate area expressed shock at the disturbance. A woman renting a home on the property, who requested anonymity, described the event as very unusual for the location, which typically hosts weddings and birthdays. She stated she was asleep and learned of the incident only when a Mooresville Police officer instructed her family to lock all doors and windows. Another long-time resident, Patty, observed that vehicles were lined up along the highway and in nearby fields, noting that the scale of the shooting was terrifying for a neighborhood with many school-age children and grandchildren.
