FeedNC is requesting donations of 12 to 14 pound turkeys, traditional holiday foods, and new gifts to support approximately 700 households that visit its Grassroots Grocery each week.

Angela Kline, the CEO of FeedNC, stated that the organization wants to help families celebrate without choosing between a holiday meal and paying for other necessities. She noted that rising costs for groceries, housing, and other essentials are making it harder for neighbors to make ends meet.

Data from households that applied for FeedNC services in 2025 shows that 60% reported someone skipped a meal or ate less due to a lack of food. An additional 20% of those households reported going an entire day without eating.

The organization is collecting these items for two specific programs. The first is a Thanksgiving initiative where donated turkeys and fixings will be distributed to help families gather for a holiday meal. Kline described the turkey as a traditional part of Thanksgiving that allows families to share a meal and enjoy seasonal traditions.

The second program is Winter Wonderland, scheduled for December 19. This event is designed for current FeedNC member families and partners with the National Charity League Lake Norman Chapter.

For Winter Wonderland, FeedNC is collecting new, unwrapped toys, gifts, and gift cards for children ages 3 to 17. The organization noted that gifts for teenagers are especially needed. The event also includes a Gift for Family program, which allows children to select a gift for an adult in their household.

Donors can drop off items at participating locations throughout the community. A list of drop-off locations, deadlines, and specific needed items is available on the FeedNC webpage.

The organization emphasizes that the events are intended to create moments of joy for entire families. Kline said seeing a child choose a gift for a parent is special, and the goal is for every family to leave feeling celebrated and cared for by their community.
