AMC Theatres delivered the biggest quarter in its history, with revenue for the three months ended Sept. 30 climbing to $1.71 billion, up 31.6% from $1.30 billion a year earlier, as moviegoers flocked to 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' and 'The Odyssey.'

The result topped the chain's previous all-time high of $1.60 billion, posted in the second quarter of 2026 on the strength of 'Project Hail Mary' and 'Michael.' Before this year's rebound, AMC's best quarter on record dated to the second quarter of 2019, before the pandemic, when 'Avengers: Endgame' arrived in theaters and shattered every box office expectation.

The company also swung into the black, reporting net income of $109.3 million against a net loss of $298.2 million in the third quarter of 2025. Earnings per share came in at 12 cents, versus a loss of 58 cents in the prior-year period.

'In recent years, where other key players in our industry collapsed, at AMC we repeatedly instead have talked about recovery. Today, we can finally say that AMC has recovered,' CEO Adam Aron said in a statement. 'Mere survival was never the goal. Our goal ultimately was to thrive, and that is exactly and precisely where our focus now lies. We are highly energized by the tremendous opportunities ahead.'

Aron also thanked the company's studio partners, lenders, business partners, employees and shareholders for standing with AMC through what he described as a long and at times brutal road. He credited the better-than-expected results to several factors, including the rising popularity of premium large formats, the A-List subscription service and a resurgent box office, calling this summer the industry's strongest since COVID.

'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' has become the third-highest grossing movie in history with $2.5 billion, while Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' powered to an astounding $1.8 billion. Overall domestic theatrical revenue has already eclipsed $8 billion this year, a milestone the industry did not cross last year until December.

Audiences have also been more willing to spend at the concession stand. AMC's food and beverage revenue reached $589.5 million for the quarter, up 30% from $451.8 million a year earlier, while ticket revenue rose 33% to $954.5 million from $715.1 million.

With potential juggernauts such as 'Avengers: Doomsday,' 'Dune: Part III' and 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' still on the schedule, Aron said this year will easily rank as the biggest at the box office in post-pandemic times.

'Sometimes short but sweet is the best way to summarize performance,' Aron wrote in a five-paragraph statement. 'We expect the remaining film slate to propel both the domestic and global box office to their highest full-year levels in seven years. We could not be more enthusiastic about AMC's prospects as this year draws to a triumphant close.'
