AMC Theatres at Tysons Corner Center finished a multi-million dollar renovation on October 30, adding a 4DX screen and three premium large-format auditoriums to the location. The project marked the first comprehensive upgrade to the theater since it opened in September 2005.

Construction began in March and proceeded in phases to keep the venue open. Before this work, the facility had only added an IMAX screen in 2010 and converted one room to Dolby Cinema. Those two specific screening rooms were not part of the new project.

The renovation introduced a second Dolby Cinema auditorium along with a new Prime at AMC room. The Prime space features recliner seating, laser projection for brighter colors, and enhanced surround sound. Traditional auditoriums throughout the theater now include heated recliners. The box office and the MacGuffins Bar, which serves food and alcohol to patrons 21 and older, also received visual updates.

Dan Ellis, executive vice president and chief operations, development and marketing officer at AMC, stated in a press release that the investment aimed to bring a fresh look and feel to the venue. He noted that the Tysons location has long been a popular destination in the Washington, D.C. area, which justified the spending.

The 4DX format is part of a wider rollout by AMC to compete with home theater systems. The chain installed its first 4DX screen in Houston in February. The technology uses moving seats and more than 21 environmental effects, including water sprays, snow, and scents, that sync with on-screen action. AMC plans to install the format in 40 theaters across the U.S. and Europe by the end of 2027.

The 4DX room in Tysons is currently showing the Batman villain origin story Clayface and the fantasy-romance film Wicker. The Prime room is screening You Can See Everything, a documentary by filmmaker Nathan Fielder about Elizabeth Holmes. The theater is located on the third floor of Tysons Corner Center at 1961 Chain Bridge Road.
