A single lot of 365 Whole Foods Market Ashwagandha capsules is being pulled from shelves and online carts after the FDA identified a risk of salmonella contamination. The agency issued the recall on Friday following the discovery of the bacteria during routine sampling of a retail unit. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The affected product is the 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha, 120 count. Vitality Works Inc. manufactures the white plastic bottles, which display UPC 9948252099. Consumers should check the bottom of the container for lot number 2025-26227 and an expiration date of October 13, 2028. The capsules were sold nationwide from November 24, 2025, to October 20, 2026.

The product was available at Whole Foods Market locations and on Amazon.com. The FDA notes that salmonella causes salmonellosis, a foodborne illness characterized by fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Symptoms typically emerge between six hours and six days after consumption and may persist for up to a week. While many patients recover without treatment, the condition poses higher risks to young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.

Vitality Works advises customers to dispose of the recalled bottles. Buyers can return the product to any Whole Foods Market for a refund. Those who purchased the items via Amazon should verify their order history for the 120-count bottle and the corresponding purchase date. The manufacturer handles inquiries by phone at (505) 268-9950, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mountain Time.
