A twenty-year-old driver was arrested after crossing the center line and causing a head-on collision that killed one person and injured another in Wake County. The crash occurred just south of the intersection of Smithfield Road and Bissette Road, southwest of Wendell. North Carolina State Highway Patrol officials confirmed the details of the accident early Sunday morning.

Adam Lynch, who drove a red car, died in the collision. His wife, Maria Young, was transported to the hospital, though the full extent of her injuries has not been determined. Troopers stated that the couple was driving to the City of Oaks Marathon in Raleigh. Lynch's mother was driving a vehicle directly in front of them at the time of the impact.

Xavier Snead was driving the black vehicle involved in the crash. According to the patrol, his car crossed into the oncoming lane. Contributing factors identified by troopers included suspected drug impairment and a failure to maintain lane control. Snead was arrested at the scene.

He faces multiple charges for his role in the accident. These include felony death by motor vehicle, felony serious injury, and driving while impaired. Additional charges include driving while under 21 after consuming alcohol or drugs, driving without an operator's license, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He is also charged with careless and reckless driving, driving left of center, and possession of an open container and alcohol while under 21.
