Body found 0.25 miles south of Dobbs Ferry pier

Local residents near the Dobbs Ferry waterfront learned on Saturday afternoon that a person had died in the river. Emergency crews pulled the victim from the water about one-quarter mile south of the town's pier. The death prompts a formal inquiry by county authorities into how the incident occurred.

The Dobbs Ferry Fire Department received the initial call at approximately 1:15 p.m. on October 31. Dispatchers reported that someone was face down in the water near the shoreline. The department mobilized its own units along with the Tarrytown Fire Department Marine Unit to begin the search.

Divers and responders located the victim in the Hudson River after sweeping the designated area. They brought the person to shore where emergency medical services pronounced them dead. The fire department did not release the victim's name in its official account of the event.

The Westchester County Department of Public Safety is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. A wide range of local agencies participated in the response effort. These groups included the Dobbs Ferry Police Department, Dobbs Ferry EMS, and the Metro-North Police Department. Westchester County DES Battalion 14 also assisted on the scene.

The Dobbs Ferry Fire Department issued a brief statement addressing the community. "The Dobbs Ferry Fire Department extends its condolences to those affected by this tragic incident," the department said. The investigation continues as officials gather details from the scene and the responding units.
